How to Start a Chapter

You MUST be a Master Mason in good standing to be a Widows Son. If you, for any reason, are under sentence of suspension or expulsion from your Blue Lodge, you CANNOT become or remain a Widows Son.

Each Widows Sons jurisdiction is self-governing and autonomous. A Presidents Board (sometimes referred to as a “Grand Chapter”) is the authoritative body in each state, providence, or country. They oversee and approve the formation of associate chapters within their jurisdictions. For information to form an associate chapter, please contact the Board President of your area for assistance.

Where there is no existing Presidents Board, one can easily be started by any Master Mason in good standing with his Blue Lodge, who rides along with 5 brothers in good standing who are interested in doing so. Your group must elect, or appoint your group of Chartered Officers.

Officers are:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Guardian of Membership
  • Sergeant of Arms

Following the Confederation of Clubs (CoC) protocol for your state will be necessary. The next step is to draft a set of Chapter by-laws.  We have sample by-laws of various chapters which can be used as a guide or template in adopting your own. Once you have prepared your by-laws, a copy must be sent to one of our association representatives, plus a list of your officers and means for contacting all. By-laws and contact information may be sent via email, fax, or postal mail.

To start a new Presidents’ Board you may first solicit the help of a neighboring state board.  If you cannot locate one, any of the National Coordinators will be happy to help find one or guide you in the right direction. They have a proven track record for working in depth with states looking to become Widows Sons, and have a proven track record to help set up for success. Use our Contact/Join Us page to inquire.

To join an existing chapter in your area please search our Chapter Directory for the one nearest you.
